Peter Weir?s ?The Way Back? to get Academy Award-qualifying theatrical run

Peter Weir's "The Way Back," which had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival, will get an Oscar-qualifying theatrical run at the end of the year.
Nigel Sinclair, CEO and co-chairman of Exclusive Media Group and Newmarket Films, and Chris Ball, president and CEO of newly formed Wrekin Hill Entertainment, made the announcement today. Newmarket announced that it had picked up the film just as the fest got underway in early September.
Weir is an awards magnet (he has six nominations), and while his latest film took a long while to land a distribution deal, many wondered whether the producers would pass up the opportunity to drum up attention for the film with an awards campaign. That question has been answered with Newmarket/Wrekin Hill's intention to release the film December 29 in L.A. before its limited theatrical release January 21.
